LOUIS VUITTON, a unique success story.
A French flagship in leather goods, and more. Haute couture, jewelry, leather goods, technology, Louis Vuitton listens to its contemporaries with omnipresent perfection. But did you know that this extraordinary house of craftsmanship also ventured into writing? And it did so with art. |

Writing Universe
In 2012, the leather goods manufacturer opened "Louis Vuitton Cabinet d'Ecriture," a concept intended to be ephemeral, in Paris's Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. This boutique was slated to close its doors at the end of 2013. The company stated that this boutique would be a tribute to Gaston, Louis Vuitton's grandson, who loved writing and created the calligraphic LV monogram. In 2013, the company opened stores in Munich, Berlin, Tokyo, and then in other major cities worldwide. |

Fountain pens, rollerball pens, and ballpoint pens are manufactured in Germany. The collections: Doc, Grand Tour, Spirit, and Cargo. The arrival of designer Anouska Hempel revolutionized the concepts. Passionate about rich, subtly spiced, and cozy spaces, the designer applied her creativity to the range available to her. For example, like Christo, she wrapped the Cargo range in crocodile leather, offering it in black, brown, grey, or even snakeskin. She transformed the Cargo into an incredibly massive, elegant, and efficient pen. Both heavy and ergonomic, the Cargo is a success that rivals its snow-capped competitor. Its launch price was €1750. The Spirit range, on the other hand, shines brightly. Made of gold or palladium, these pens, now unobtainable, are a perfection of design. As with the Cargo, the sharp return of the nib to the pen's body is striking and impressive, yet proves to be very ergonomic. No more indexes half a centimeter from the nib; fingers now naturally rest about 2 centimeters from the tip. Classy and ergonomic, 75 grams of talent. |

Louis Vuitton, in any case, fears no competition, as its goal is to deliver a unique stock and then withdraw. We can thus assume that a failure would not have frightened it. But who, for that matter, could have mentioned a failure when referring to the leather goods manufacturer?
Anouska Hempel also worked on the Doc range, lacquered or leather, plating it with fine gold, goat leather, and gilded or silver clips, always topping a quality nib. |
|
The specificity of Vuitton pens is due to a patent that prevents ink from leaking during air travel.
Louis Vuitton simultaneously developed a magnificent range of inks; 12 in all. |

Ten years after the closure of Louis Vuitton's writing cabinets, the assessment is positive. The various pen ranges will become a legend that will appreciate in value. The highest-end Vuitton pens are now difficult to find, which leads to a constant increase in their price.
Our feeling is that these prices will suddenly skyrocket to surpass the prices of Montblanc 4810 limited editions. The €2500 mark is not far off for the Cargo pens. The Spirit range, more flashy than the Cargo (as all that glitters obliges), should reach €1800 to €2000 by 2025.
The lacquered Doc pens will cross the €800 threshold, while the leather Doc pens will have gained an advantage, just under €1000.
The ink, currently unobtainable (as of spring 2023), could fetch €50 for 57ml for those who manage to find it.
Don't forget the spare parts: nibs, ink converters (pumps), clips... which will command high prices.
Only a pen that is entirely original will retain its value.
For the pleasure it brought, for rekindling the love of writing, I can only thank the house of Louis Vuitton.

We will cover all the models released by the brand.
But to get it out of the way from the start, here is the orange fashion faux pas on the upcoming list (see photo above).
So, a question: why?
Is it a bag charm? Would Louis Vuitton have made such an undeserving bag?
Let's move on.
|
This rubber-bodied model was released for the creation of the Louis Vuitton's Cup. Prices range between €130 and €250. |
|
And this lovely vintage pen from the 90s. In gilded metal. Elegant and quite rare. Seen between €180 and €200. |

Louis Vuitton Doc range pens
They fit in everywhere. They have their own character, especially the "goat leather" ones with their gold or palladium-plated staples.

Louis Vuitton Sentimental range pens
A very uncommon line. Covered in leather, these tools adopt the forms of the Cargo but with so much less charm. Too understated.
Having never come across one, I suggest a maximum purchase price of €450.

Louis Vuitton Grand Tour range pens
Pretty but lacking character. Their lines are understated and their character is hidden... in fact, it's very well hidden.

Louis Vuitton Spirit range pens
Magnificent, the high-end quality one expects from a house like this.
Covered in leather, starting prices are €740 for the ballpoint pen and €860 for the rollerball.
For their metallic counterparts, their rarity goes hand in hand with their price.
Expect to pay between €1400 and €1900 to acquire one of these sumptuous palladium or gold Spirit pens, if you can find one.

Louis Vuitton Cargo range pens
Crocodile attitude. Solid, smooth, with a unique style, the Louis Vuitton Cargo pen range is fantastic.
The rarest colors are blue crocodile and snakeskin crocodile. Their price (for the crocodile Cargo pens) jumped by 70 to 100% from 2022 to 2023, reaching a peak of €1790 as of this article's date. And guess what? There's still a significant margin, with a projected ceiling price of around €3000 within 24 months.
The Lacquer Cargo pens are experiencing similar price increases, but they started at a lower price. Expect to pay between €700 and €900 as a starting price. Now is the time to invest.

And since everything that works is copied, here are the counterfeits circulating for Louis Vuitton pens.
What's more ridiculous than holding a copy, other than satisfying one's ego? It's outdated. Next!

For allowing me to return to fountain pens with a certain cachet,
For the joy of writing every day with this pen,
For the pleasure of sharing this passion with you,
I thank the House of Vuitton (in which I have no stock participation).
